This “FAQ” page addresses (almost) all queries. Some of these questions have been asked routinely over the years, others are designed to provide Information / Logistic details. From the moment you like and want a piece of artwork to the point you get to “wow!” it on your wall, there are specific steps. These details should be lucid and transparent. The more you know, the smoother the experience is! Plus an Informed Collector = Satisfied Client and Satisfied Client = Highest Advertisement. No amount of ad $s, catchy tricks, flash, drumrolls, etc., comes close to what a true admirer proclaims about a product, particularly when that “product” is as deeply intimate as ART! In sum, the process of acquiring the art should make every attempt to be worthy of the art and Collector! Thus from the instant you purchase your painting, it is treated as an extension of YOU, as grandly and as exactly as you yourself in person! Every single Painting is also treated as a part of Sven and whosoever acquires one, becomes a part of him! Are all artworks on this site for sale?

1.Unless otherwise specifically marked SOLD or NFS (not for sale), yes! In some cases (eg., “New Glory”) the Original is NFS, but limited #Ed, signed copies may be available!

2.Please head over to the About page. All relevant details are there.

3.When you purchase a work by Sven, you are making an Investment. Museums, reputable dealers, Collectors, all know about and pay careful attention to the long term preservation of Paintings. Their color, surfaces and overall integrity are not immune to “accidents” or the elements or time! This is even more critical because of the composition of most of Sven’s works… It is ensured that your “investment” comes protected. All 3D-Multilayered Oil paintings (under CURRENT PAINTINGS Gallery) come with standard protective “UV glassing” that shields the 3D Layers of the painting either in transit or against undesirable nearness / curiosity (touching). This incredible value of safeguard is already included in those prices! The “glassing” adds a larger perimeter to the fully framed painting size denoted on the website for each Painting. Essentially, not only does your investment come comprehensively protected for the future but it carries the incomparable aesthetics of a museum display. Please note: For most of the older works (under the FORMATIVE Gallery) this conservation process would also be necessary (but the added prices of those challenges are determined on a case by case basis). For (a very few) other works, this “glassing” is not needed per se, but available upon client request.

4.This is entrusted to a local small business partner. First the Painting is securely fitted into a custom box-container. Then this box is appropriately wrapped and packed for delivery. Photographs document that your painting is getting ensealed in pristine condition, then taken to Shipping.

5.This partnership is also with a “live local” business owner. That means, they know the invaluable nature of your acquisition. They see the care, detail and inspection that goes into packing each Painting. They examine the content as well, only then is it sealed for its journey to you! (photo taken also before final seal / shipment).

Please Note: The actual Packing and Shipping will ONLY START once the Payment had been fully confirmed and verified.

6.After all of that packing and shipping care, to make SURE that your painting reaches you in the pristine condition documented, specific insurance to the max feasible value is tacked on for Painting Delivery. ArtbySven pays that full insurance cost! (Fyi: this alone takes a different level of safety and scrutiny in packing or else the insurance may not be applied!) Thus pursuant to the insurance clause, the painting will only be released at the receiving end to you or your preauthorized person(s) only. For what you are getting, you will not want Delivery any other way!

7.The painting will come Ready-to-Hang with “wiring” already set at the back of the frame. A 20lb-test-weighted picture hanging nail will be included for the “smaller to medium sized” paintings. Strongly recommend a stud finder to locate a best-point to hang from your wall. The larger paintings (that weigh greater than 15 lbs) will come with 2 such 20lb-test weight nails. The recommendation is to find 2 consecutive wall studs (one stud for each nail) and please hang the painting from 2 equi-level-points on the wall (this spreads the weight to different points on the wall, keeps it doubly safe!). These larger paintings will also come “double wired” though the single wire itself can easily bear the painting weight. No chances are taken with these works, it is ensured that your investment in SVEN is preserved for posterity from every feasible, thoughtful angle. PLEASE TRY AND AVOID EITHER DIRECT SUNLIGHT, MOISTURE OR EXTREME TEMPERATURE (VENTS / FIREPLACE) AREAS!!! Aside from this ready to hang painting and stationary to hang it with, the following are included: a. A set of gloves (for the larger paintings, 2 sets of gloves for 2 persons!) to properly handle your painting with near zero direct touching and b. a small glass cleaning kit with wipes. The cleaning solution included is specific to the glassing. DO NOT TRY OTHER Glass Cleaners IN THE MARKET. AND DO NOT APPLY GLASS CLEANER PROVIDED IN THE KIT DIRECTLY TO THE PROTECTIVE GLASS. Apply a small portion to the cleaning cloth, then wipe the glass in soft, light but firm up-down (portrait scale) or side-to-side (landscape scale) motion. PLEASE ENSURE THAT PRESSURE ON THE SURFACE IS NEVER SUCH AS TO BEND THE GLASS INTO THE PAINTING! c. A succinct step by step guidance card to handle and hang your cherished Art! Yes, it is that detailed! d. Your authentication certificate and thank you note (please see answer to question 12.) and e. Plus (to mention again!) full delivery insurance until you receive your Art!

8.The only 2 added expenses borne by the acquiring Client are the relevant Taxes (Ohio Sales tax  = 6.75% in Wood County) and Packaging and Shipping.

9.The “rough guidance” of pricing to properly package and deliver a (10lb – 30lb) framed painting from the NW Ohio region to rest of the contiguous United States are as follows: Seattle (Upper N.West) ~ $400; San Diego (Lower West) ~ $450; Portland Maine (Upper N.East) ~ $350; Miami (Lower Eastern) ~ $350; Austin (Southwest) ~ $350; New York (Straight East) ~ $300. Proper custom encasing and packing of each painting = $50 to $150 (depending on size). Thus, as an example only, let us say you are inclined to buy a $5000 piece that is 30” X 37” (Conservation Framed outer perimeter) that weighs ~20lbs all securely packaged. Then you pay $337 in OH Tax + approx $65 for secure packaging + (an estimated average) of $350 for shipping. = /~ rounded to $750 to get it securely in your own hands. That = approximately 15% of the painting value. TO MAKE IT EVEN MORE SIMPLE (and Headache free!) ACROSS THE BOARD, JUST 12.5% OF PAINTING VALUE IS ADDED TO COVER ALL YOUR PACKAGING, SHIPPING and TAXES RIGHT AT THE CHECKOUT. This gets rid of the guessing, additional nit-picky calculation steps for you, the collector. (And yes, 9 to 1, if you live farther or your package is heavier, that extra cost gets covered by ArtbySven.) Ergo, for that hypothetical $5k painting you pay only $5625 and it arrives at your doorstep fully insured!!!! PLEASE NOTE: The only exceptions to this generous Packaging and Shipping gesture are 1. Some of the early works by the Artist that are in heavy specialty frames and 2. The Clay Admixtured works. They are in the FORMATIVE WORKS gallery…. This is one of the main reasons why their “Pricing” needs prior enquiry and serious dialogue before acquisition. (The Clay works are truly in a different level of care: definitely requires special packaging and delivery vendors!!!).

10.This part is tricky. Every attempt is made to deliver your acquisition to you within 30 days of your Full CONFIRMED Payment. You ask why (that long)? This is because of the care, scrutiny and detail in every step, particularly the packaging for each Art piece. Once that part is done (and you get confirmation that your Art has been shipped), predicting a package arrival (despite all the technology) is truly black arts! However, within reason, you should be getting your cherished Art within a 7-10 days window from the time it is marked as Shipped, if not sooner. And of course the tracking number is forwarded to you by which you can follow your precious package. Please Note: The only exception to this “30 Days Delivery” are some works in the FORMATIVE gallery. (These have “Please Enquire” for Pricing!) Essentially for all works that you can complete payment online, most likely (unless SPECIFICALLY EXCEPTION NOTED) you will get your acquisition within 30 days!

11.Firstly, to state again, all “Current Paintings” come with Conservation framing (included in list price). There are quite a few among the “Formative Works” for which such protective safeguard is not needed. Clients will be comprehensively advised in this regard at the appropriate juncture when purchase decisions of particular works are made.

12.This goes back to: your acquisition is truly an investment! Thus again, it is ensured that you possess unparalleled bona fides of ownership. This is accomplished in four distinct layers: 1. Each Painting itself is of course uniquely signed and dated by Sven. 2. The back surface of the frames are titled, dated and stamped “ArtbySven”. 3. With each work you also get a certificate of authenticity with an exact embedded watermark of the painting, signed and Sale dated as well. and finally, 4. A “Thank you” card, signed and stamped with trademark stationary. Please go to Authentication Guarantee for example-photos of the above. These four facets taken together constructs a powerful ownership trail. Please save items 3 and 4 that come taped in tandem at the back of each painting (in their respective protective ensheathments).

13.Yes, every single Original work / painting comes with its own Authentication. This is also true for the limited, signed, #ed copes as well. In the latter case, the “certificate of authenticity” will carry the watermark of the Original but also denote the precise # of the copy you are acquiring. The same holds true for the lovely Picture Books: each Picture Book (and its accompanying set of art plates) will come signed, #ed and dated. Their authenticity certificate will have the front cover photo with the exact # of the copy you are acquiring.

14.Collectors / Clients deserve to have financial flexibility and control. Plus “Art” is not really a “necessary staple” for most! The thought is to make this incredible super-personal and worthy purchase decision a little more friendly and a lot less burdensome via the auspices of PayPal. Please go to the Cart page (click on the cart logo on the top right), scroll down, click on the various Paypal options available to learn how easy and hassle-free this option is for you! When you click on the “learn more” hyperlink (beside PayPal), it walks you through all your options! MAKE SURE to scroll all the way down on that PayPal info page to the hyperlink “See other ways to pay over time”. In that you will also find a particularly attractive feature “Pay in 4” (interest-free payments for all purchases under $1500!!!). This info is also available on the Checkout page under “What is Paypal?”

15.If it were up to ArtbySven, everyone should qualify! However that process is strictly between you and PayPal. They have a superb and customer-friendly system in place. Please go to our Payment Plans section to check your eligibility.

16.We will give you as much time, information, details and answer every question / concern you may have about your acquisition BEFORE your purchase, including and up to (if needed) your very own personal video time with / of the Artwork you wish to acquire!!!! But once you have purchased the Artwork, that transaction stands finalized. All purchases are final and binding = No returns.

We hope you concur that packing, crating, shipping this type of item is challenging enough just one-way. One can only imagine the logistics & enormous “surcharge” that needs to be pre-added on to facilitate such (“…emm, now that I have my art, I don’t like it as much.”) type of returns. Also, almost all Artists who independently sell their work online (not via platforms) have this as standard policy.

The ONLY EXCEPTION to this is the (highly improbable but unfortunate) instance that the Fully Insured Artwork is damaged during Delivery. Please go to our Terms in order to be apprised of the options in that case.

17.The payment choices and methods available on the site are all reliable, reputable and designed for safety and security for you and ArtbySven. They also provide quick and transparent accounting not possible to the same extent as the alternative, older / traditional means. So, NO: at the present moment the listed modes of payments are the only ones available. Also in response to queries, no transactions in cryptocurrency at this time.

FOR CLIENTS WHO ARE NEARBY: if you feel you are within reasonable driving distance and wish to pick up your chosen piece(s) in person, we can enter into mutually acceptable and convenient modes of payment(s): cash, checks or cashiers checks. However, all transactions shall be verifiably performed and certified at the local bank during business hours only.

18.You are “absolutely correct” in this assumption. Two reputable National Galleries and an Art Appraiser were consulted as to the rough-range guidance of prices they would (handily) charge for Sven’s paintings of various sizes. The prices depicted generally subtracts the Gallery share to offer it directly to Collectors! This is the right way, ArtbySven prioritizes the diehard collectors above all! There are a few exceptions to this general guidance: some works (that Sven feels) are so integral to Artist formation that the value must be reflective of that importance. Quite a few of his formative works fall within this purview.

19.(yes, this question will inevitably be asked!) With much respect, as explained in the inverse question above, ArtbySven pegs its integrity to the pricing, period.

20.If you wish to be absolutely thorough in this regard (i.e., “Trust but Verify!”) please give about one month from the date of your purchase = approximately the time you physically receive your Artwork. The donation would be completed by that time. You may be provided with a contact person from that particular organization for verification purposes. It is an honor to contribute to them and your follow-through and scrutiny is welcomed!

 21.ArtbySven Clients / Collectors would not have it any other way. And once you go through this way, given the choice, you too will shun Art acquisition in any other way!

22.YES, IT IS A DISTINCT HONOR to provide a 10% across the board Discount only to ALL MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES (Active Duty or Former member! With Full ID verification please.) This is truly reserved for the special among us who give so much and ask for so little! A polite note of warning; please do NOT attempt to abuse this honor code by misrepresentation or spurious ID’S. It’s not as much as ArtbySven would become lesser from that deplorable act… but one sincerely would not wish to be on the “wrong side” of these Warriors: they do not take kindly to “stolen valor” !

23.Unfortunately very limited, on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook and Instagram. Please note, this aspect is not even close to what one may view as an “active / robust” presence by any means. Though absolutely grateful for all the appreciation and support, mainly the reality of health concerns precludes Social media engagement (and the tremendous amount of ardent dedication it takes to maintain that presence!).

24.Yes, you sure can! But ArtbySven can only respond to specific ARTWORK purchase questions. (Again, for the same Health logistics reasons! Many apologies for this….) However, that is also why this FAQ page is long and pretty much, all information exhaustive!

NOTE: ArtbySven can and will only respond to serious acquisitional queries and Art Gallery representation questions. Spurious contacts get duly reported to Law enforcement. Unfortunately, such are the times.

25.This is an important query… Alas, in the “Artworld”, at least as it stands today, the more one sells, the more they are well known, the more the “acclaimed value” becomes of that artist and her work! No matter how “unkind” this “market matrix” be, this is the reality. With that being said, Sven would be considered in most quarters as an “emerging artist” = not too many sales and definitely not the prized accolades that other artists have so worthily amassed in their careers. But he has been lucky, he has sold quite a few works during his lifetime already!

Secondly, the artist strongly feels that neither his resume (sales, exhibition, collection, etc.,) nor too many “extra words about him” should stand between YOU and YOUR ART! YOU like your painting because of who YOU are, not because how grand or vaunted (or in Sven’s case = completely unknown) the “artist” may be. Art is that Personal! Now, of course there are many collectors who collect works because of the “name” attached to it. Great, more power to them! Sven steers clear of that angle. He sees a purchased painting as a “statement” of the Collector, his or her own nobility shining through, nothing less. A Collector collects because, above all, she believes in the painting, she enjoys it as a “projection” of herself! Then she leaves it to her family or chosen ones as a mark of her own grace, not Sven’s! Historically, that is what Collectors stand for: they are the sentinels of Art!

26.This is an avenue that is currently getting worked out. The rigors of a gallery modality service is always worthy of art! However, once again, Health does pose a big question mark in this regard… This is the driving reason behind much time, thought and effort going into making this website worthy of Collectors and Clients!

There is no substitute for that direct connection between Beauty and its Beholder! Added benefit to that: no “middle-person” in between, thus the Pricepoints can remain salivatingly attractive!

27.Many thanks to the great doctors… he functions within reason and with restrictions. His social / public life is minimal as are most “outward engagements”.

32.With health considerations, the Artist contact part would not be feasible at this time…. However exploration has begun to set up some form of visit and / tour of ArtbySven Studio. But again, this is contingent on health and wellness first…. Please stay tuned!

33.These are mainly short story collections or tales written by and illustrated with the artist’s own artwork plates (various media) that “flow and guide through” the progression of the narratives. They often date back to Sven’s “college days” and beyond, edited or polished much later in life… They are truly a remarkable and unique “genre” in their own right! Honestly, there is not really a way to describe them other than they are “Fairytales for Adult Children”! Each Collector copy is meticulously printed at the local Copy Shop on the finest heavy stationery. And you will also get a complete set of all the Illustration plates with each purchase! These too are signed and #ed, they could all be framed at your pleasure. This adds a tremendous value to your acquisition. For example only, one of those books has 58 printed pages of seven short stories / vignettes linked together by 7 artworks. Not only do you get to read these story gems but you also get a set of those 7 art plates INCLUDED in the price of each “numbered copy” that you are purchasing. Once again, this is done with a keen eye to hold and appreciate future value for the ArtbySven Collector base!

And please don’t forget: COPY # 0 (zero) belongs to that special Collector who will acquire the “original” copy along with all the original artwork plates!

34.First, the pricing of the story books are roughly based on the number of pages and the number of illustrations plates due to individual custom printing. Second yes (!), a bit of fun and gamesmanship is coded into those prices: all prices are multiples of the lucky number 18! (in ancient Talmudic tradition) May your collection bring you Fortune!

35.This is also a critical question. Lighting is equal to (if not more important than) art placement in a room! Based on ArtbySven exhibition and gallery experience these 3 criteria are most determinative: a. effectiveness (of the lighting), b. simplicity / ease of use and c. dependability / durability (of the apparatus). Short of you hiring your very own lighting consultant, the best and most elegant (yet cost-effective) advice is to light these paintings with a clip-on piano / music light (gently clipping them to the top edge of the frame and gently arcing down the bendable arm) to light the desired focal point of your painting. This “focal point” is your personal choice. Some like to set the direct light on the face of a portrait, others like it to be slightly off-center. For landscapes, you get to pick your spot where to shine the max light! There are some amazing / affordable / cool products online. Search under “clip-on art light” or “piano / music lights”. You will find many easily under $30 and with rechargeable max battery-life exceeding 2 days. Or you can keep it continuously plugged in to the nearest outlet. Most definitely a worthy purchase!
